Does the world really need another business blog? Probably not, but while I’m an avid reader and fan of many, I’ve often found myself wanting more practical information and insights that real businesses can actually apply. Like today.
I’ve recently exited from a successful business (WOMO.com.au) and have previously been involved with growing another business from it’s roots through to a successful trade sale, so I’m keen to share some of the insights I’ve learned along the way. Both of these businesses serviced the small business market so I’ve been in close contact with entrepreneurs and small business owners for almost 20 years (and I’m still only 25 – amazing hey!). You can read more about my background here.
When I’ve reflected back on what I’ve enjoyed most about business, it’s been these interactions and the problem solving that goes along with the daily challenges of building your own business. For the first time since I was 14, I’m not working (although the family seems to expect dinner every night), now seems to be the perfect time to indulge myself and distill some of my thoughts on running and growing a business.
My hope is for DoTheThings to be all about;
- Doing the things that really move the dial for your business
- Covering areas of marketing, customer service, product development, sales, staff, productivity, planning, and perhaps even some financials
- Understanding that businesses don’t exist in a vacuum – your personal goals, family, health and even the admin of life are all part of the picture
As you’ll see in the coming posts, I’ve made many mistakes and have learned a lot about many aspects of business. I’d love for this to provide a shortcut to learning this the hard way.
I hope some of you will come along for the ride…
Fiona, I am really looking forward to your blog. Bud and I built a business from the ground up. We learned some lessons the hard way and would have benefited greatly from someone who had your background. Best wishes!
Thanks Terri, You and Bud did built a fantastic business in a totally different industry and did so well to achieve so much. I hope you’re enjoying the fruits of your efforts now 🙂
Your timing is perfect, let’s see how I handle the French and UK challenges to come….Bon chance ma copine!
Merci Ang! You’ll take it all in your stride no doubt (with a lot of skiing thrown in for good measure!)
Hi Fiona! This is great! I have subscribed and can’t wait for more!
Thanks Heather! I’m looking forward to delivering more too. If there’s any topic you’d specifically like to hear about, please let me know.
Anything you are likely to write about will be worth reading Fiona.
My interest will be for general expansion of understandings and alerting others who may have more specific interest. Congratulations on your latest initiative.
Thanks Anne!
